EVERY WORD | RYAN STRAIN SHARES HIS PRE-MATCH THOUGHTS

28th November 2024

Dundee United defender Ryan Strain spoke to the broadcast media ahead of our William Hill Premiership clash with St Mirren in the city of Discovery.

Our number two discussed continuing our encouraging run of form, his return to action and facing a familiar foe!

ON A POSITIVE RESULT AT IBROX

To go to Rangers and get a point was massive and hopefully we can just bring that form into this weekend. It’ll be great to be back at home in front of our fans, and last time we at Tannadice we won 3-0 so hopefully we can build on that.

ON GETTING BACK IN AMONGST THE ACTION

I’m buzzing. That was my second 90 minutes in a row and I feel really fit. I can't wait to go again this Saturday!

ON THE FRUSTRATION OF BEING SIDELINED

It was so frustrating, especially because I’d just arrived at a new club. All you want to do is impress, but unfortunately got injured as soon as I got here. I’m back up and fit now and like I said, just raring to go again.

ON HOSTING ST MIRREN

They've won three of their last four so they're just coming into their stride and they're a great team. I was there last year, worked with a lot of their players, and they've got a great manager as well. I’m sure it’ll be a hard game.

ON HAVING SOME INSIDE KNOWLEDGE

I played with a few of them, but as soon as you're out there there are no friends on the pitch.

ON BOTH SIDES ENJOYING A POSITIVE RUN

As I mentioned they’ve enjoyed some good form recently, but we're also very confident. We're on a good run and especially at home, we're looking to take all three points.

ON CEMENTING HIS PLACE IN THE STARTING XI AFTER INJURY

I've just got two 90 minutes in a row so that's been great for my confidence that I can last full games quite comfortably.

ON THE SENTIMENTALITY OF PLAYING ST MIRREN

I spent quality two years there and we did really well as a team - I’ve got some good memories of my time there. But I'm here now and all I want to do is secure a good result for Dundee United.

ON THE OUR START TO THE SEASON

It’s been a really good start. While I was injured I enjoyed watching the team come together. There's been a lot of new signings, but everyone has bought into what the team is doing. We’re delighted to be sitting fourth in the table so hopefully we can just keep going.

ON THE POSITIVE FORM PUSHING HIS RECOVERY

It was killing me! I was in the crowd just dying to get on the pitch.

Either when we were winning or losing, I just wanted to help my teammates out. But I’m buzzing to be back.

ON WHETHER INJURY HALTED THE SETTLING-IN PROCESS

Yeah, it did. You want to impress when you come to a new club and that didn't happen for me at the start. Hopefully, I can show the fans and my teammates what I can do on the pitch. I’m loving my football now. You miss it so much when you're away from it and when you come back it makes you appreciate it more.
