TCHAMI CLEARANCE DELAYED

22nd August 2000

At 5.30pm this evening United confirmed that Cameroon international Alphonse Tchami had not yet signed for the Tangerines. The adminstration process including the necessary clearances was incomplete and the chances were slim that the 29 year old would be in the United line-up for Tuesday night's CIS Cup tie at Alloa after he agreed to sign a two year contract with the club.

Once dubbed the new Roger Milla, he has 57 caps for Cameroon and at club level has turned out for the likes of Boca Juniors and Hertha Berlin. Most recently he has spent six months in the United Arab Emirates with Al Wasl on a special 15 match deal to cover their involvement in the Asian Cup.

United have had to pay a nominal fee to get their man, but boss Alex Smith feels it will be money well spent. "Since he arrived he has gone about his business very well and I'll have no worries about playing him at Alloa if he gets clearances," said Alex.

Definitely missing the Alloa match are the injured Jim Paterson and suspended pair Steven Thompson and Craig Easton.
