A very strong tangerine side showed no mercy to the inexperienced Dark Blues in this afternoon's Wee Derby at Dens Park, slamming in seven without reply.

Indeed, the Tannadice eleven could easily have been mistaken as being a first team whereas only three of the Dens Parkers had any first team experience of note.

And it was so one-sided, United could quite conceivably have doubled their tally.

It took them only four minutes to open the scoring, Watson heading home a Paul McMullan header.

Three minutes later Nesbitt fired home from 20 yards.

United passed up two glaring chances before finally getting the third when McMullan curled one in from 25 yards after a neat one-two with Osman Sow.

Sam Stanton had the ball in the net but the ball was deemed to have been out of play in the build-up.

Calum Booth clattered a free-kick against the post before a fourth goal eventually arrived on the stroke of half-time, Rachid Bouhenna side-footing home from close range.

The relentless pressure continued in the second half.

Seven minutes in, Nesbitt scored his second when he netted the rebound after Fraser Fyvie’s 20-yarder rebounded from the base of the post.

Despite a raft of substitutions by the visitors who introduced some younger blood, the Dundee goal remained under siege.

On 76 minutes, Matty Smith was brought down in the box by Callum Moore and, although the keeper saved his penalty, Smith followed up to stroke the rebound past Elliott Parish.

And substitute Scott Banks steered home the seventh ten minutes from time.

Dundee: Parish, Rodger, Rice (Dow 38), Jefferies, O’Dea (E Smith 70), Hadenius (Anderson 70), O’Sullivan, Moore, Henvey (J Smith 76), Scott (Cunningham 76), Lambert.
