DOUBLE DELIGHT FOR WATSON

A delighted Paul Watson spoke to Dundee United's media channel ArabZONE after the 3-1 victory over Partick on Saturday and like a typical defender, the frustration of losing a late goal that denied the clean sheet was foremost on his mind.

Paul said, "I am delighted to have got the three points, but I am a little frustrated that we didn't keep the clean sheet. To lose the goal so late on was frustrating; however, we got the win so yeah, delighted."

It was Watson's first start at Tannadice, and he made himself a favourite with the home crowd with an early opener and then grabbing the second just as Partick threatened to come back into the game.

"It was great delivery for both goals, and that made it easy for me. For the second goal, I was able to run down the hill at Tannadice to get more speed for my jump! Seriously though, It came at a good time because it took the sting out of Partick."

United looked threatening throughout from set pieces, and Paul was quick to point out that isn't just down to luck.

"We work on set pieces in training a good few times a week, and it is great to see it paying off."

Watson has now started the last two games, one as part of a three-man defence and on Saturday he was part of a four-man defence, and the centre-half was quick to point out the benefits of the flexibility.

"It's a tremendous positive to be able to switch formations as teams will be unsure as to what way we are setting up. The players are comfortable doing it, and it is working right now because we started the game well and grabbed the early opener."

The stopper was delighted to get the two goals on Saturday but is more interested in the team goals moving forward saying, "Results elsewhere went well for us but it will be a tight league, very competitive and whoever is most consistent will win it, we hope it is us.

"We now look towards Alloa on Saturday and try to win the three points. I much prefer three points to scoring goals myself, so I'll take that each week over a goal or two."
