On Wednesday at 7.45pm, United will take on St Johnstone colts in the first round of the Irn-Bru Cup. The game will see Craig Easton and his reserve squad given a chance to impress as well as provide some players on the fringe of the first-team action an opportunity to shine.
Craig said, "We want to do well in this competition, and it is a fabulous opportunity for players who perhaps haven't seen as much first-team action as they would have liked to impress. It is also a great opportunity for some of the younger lads to play in an environment that challenges them a little more than a Reserve League game".
Easton, the Reserve Team Manager, is looking forward to the match ahead of the new Reserve League opener next week stating, "It is part of our reserve schedule for the year, and it is the first opportunity for a competitive run out for the majority of the guys. The League campaign starts against Sr Mirren away next Monday, but we want to win this game, do well in this cup, and I am excited about the game.
"We have worked hard over the summer, and the standard of player has impressed me since I came to the club. Tomorrow night will be a chance for all the players involved to show their value to the football club."
The likelihood is that the United team will consist of various players around the fringes of the first-team action with Scott Allardice amongst those who are expected to take part.
The 20-year-old Dundonian has plenty of experience of first-team football with 17 top team appearances here at Tannadice but has yet to feature on the park this season.
Scott said, "It is frustrating when you are sitting on the bench, but it is up to me to produce a performance tomorrow night that will give the Manager some pause for thought. I want to be playing football, and this is an opportunity for me and a few others to show we can produce a performance level high enough to ask that question."
The game is at Tannadice Park, and prices are £10 for adults and £5 for concessions. Supporters can enter via the Jerry Kerr Stand. Please note season tickets are not valid for this competition.
The game is also available on WATCH LIVE for season-long members (£120) and as a one-off game (£5) for overseas fans and anyone interested can subscribe here.
Supporters are further advised that the Hegarty Suite will open from 5 pm for all United fans but will not be open post-match tomorrow night.
