United prevail and earn a vital three points in their quest to gain promotion this season.
By Tommy McKay
United flew out the traps and immediately silenced the over 2000 travelling St Mirren supporters crammed into the Shed when they took the lead on 3 minutes.
McMullan did well to get the better of Smith on the wing and although his low cross failed to find Mikkelsen, King was on hand to collect and sweep the ball past Samson to give United the lead.
St Mirren were sprung into action by King's goal and won a series of corners and free kicks which the home side dealt with well. They did however almost concede an equaliser midway through the first half when Danny Mullen crashed an effort of Deniz's crossbar.
With both teams showing 100% commitment, the game swayed back and forth until Dallas blew for half time.
Into the second half and St Mirren started brightly knowing a point would be enough to win the Championship title at Tannadice. Despite making three attacking substitutions and sending countless balls into the United box Deniz was never threatened and never had to register a save of any note. With an added bite in defence and midfield Laszlo's men were able to grind out the victory to ensure that their Championship rivals would not win the title at Tannadice.
All those in tangerine hope that this hard-fought victory will be the catalyst for us to achieve a second place finish and ultimately promotion to the Premier League.
Man of the Match: Willo Flood - On a night where a solid defensive effort won the points, the skipper was the embodiment of work rate, drive and effort. Always gave his all and ensured those around him did the same.
