Scott McDonald expressed a desire to improve both individually and as a team when he spoke to the media ahead of Saturday's Irn-Bru Cup tie versus Alloa Athletic.
The striker who has scored twice in his three starts stressed more was to come from him.
"It is pleasing to get off the mark early but there are other aspects of my game that I am not happy with at the moment.
"I have been looking at my clips the last few days and I know I can give more. That will come but also, it is still early days. I am still building relationships with my teammates - both on and off the park. It will come and we will improve." he said.
The tag of the team that everyone wants to beat is one that doesn't phaze Scott.
"I had that pressure when I played for both Celtic and Middleboro and you have to deal with it. All it means is we have to perform consistently at a higher level to justify the tag."
Looking back to last Saturday and the disappointing defeat at St Mirren, Scott was very blunt.
"There wasn't a great deal that went right, to be honest. Before you earn the right to play football you have to compete and get into the right areas of the park and be up on teams and we fell short of that last week."
On losing the 100% record in the league, Scott said, "It would be difficult to go a whole season unbeaten but we wanted to keep winning for a while longer and we are all disappointed.
"The fans were correct to be angry with that performance but there is no point in me sitting here talking about improving. We have to show it out on the park, starting against Alloa this week."
Alloa, managed by Jim Goodwin, will come to Tannadice wanting to give a good account of themselves and Scott is expecting them to play in a manner Goodwin himself showed as a player.
"Jim Goodwin applied himself and put himself about as a footballer and I am sure Alloa will show the same characteristics."
"We want to go into this game and win it but it is also an opportunity for us to ease our frustrations from last week and work to keep improving." he added.
Saturday's game kicks off at 3pm and prices are set at £10 for adults and £5 for concessions.
It is pay-at-the-turnstile and the George Fox lower and Jerry Kerr Stands are open for United fans. Please note season ticket are not valid for this game and the Eddie Thompson stand is closed.
