Dundee United announced on Wednesday, subject to international clearance, the signing of Dutch midfielder Jordie Briels on a one-year deal.
The 25-year-old who is a product of Dutch Eerste Divisie side Fortuna Sittard's youth academy but also spent four years at Belgian club Genk as a youth, has played his entire professional career with Fortuna Sittard making 146 appearances and scoring seven goals.
Jordie joined United for pre-season training, catching the eye in his two friendly appearances and displaying a box-to-box energy, accurate passing and strength of tackle that should appeal to United fans.
Jordie said, "I am happy to be at United. I had the opportunity to come over and see how things are here and everyone has been great with me since I arrived.
"I have enjoyed training with the team and the style of the football is something that I like and also suits my game. I want to help the Club win the Ladbrokes Championship this season".
Jordie becomes Manager Ray McKinnon's sixth summer signing joining James Keatings, Billy King, Thomas Scobbie, Paul McMullan and Patrick N'Koyi.
McKinnon said, "Jordie is a high energy, strong tackling midfielder who can pass the ball very well. We brought him in to have a look at him, and over the last few weeks he has impressed me. He has performed very well in training and friendlies.
"Jordie has plenty of experience having played near 150 times in Dutch football and brings yet more quality to our midfield. It is important that every signing we make improves the squad and that's certainly the case here".
United play their first competitive match of the season at home to Raith Rovers in the Betfred Cup this coming Saturday (15/07). The game kicks off at 3pm and prices are £10 for adults and £5 for concessions.
