Dundee United announced on Monday the contract extension of Stewart Murdoch for a further two seasons. The defensive midfielder joined United in the summer of 2016 as Ray McKinnon's first signing and played 30 times including three substitute appearances and has secured his future at the club until June 2019.
Stewart scored his only goal in a tangerine shirt in the Betfred Cup tie away to Inverness last July and found himself playing at right-back in the second half of the season, making the position his own with several solid performances until a hamstring injury in the playoff game at home to Falkirk ended his season prematurely.
Manager Ray McKinnon said, "When I brought Stewart to the Club last season, I described him as the right type and someone who is strong in the tackle. He has also shown his adaptability with his move to right-back, and I am delighted to have him signed up again.
"This season it will be important that every member of the squad can make an impact every time I call on them and I know with Stewart that is the case."
Stewart Murdoch said, "Despite the disappointment of not making it into the Premiership I have loved being at United, and I am determined to do my bit this season and help the team secure promotion. I am looking forward to pre-season and getting back out on the park, giving 100% for Dundee United."
Murdoch's contract extension becomes the fourth piece of business by the Manager over the summer as he compiles a squad capable of promotion from the Ladbrokes Championship during the 2017/18.
