What would normally be a day-off for the players involved in Tuesday's CIS Cup defeat by Rangers at Ibrox was interrupted on the orders of Tannadice boss Alex Smith. His disappointment at the Cup performance was made obvious to those concerned at a closed-doors dressing-room meeting between the Manager and his players.
Smith explained, "The difference in performance between the Ibrox show and our displays even in defeat against Celtic and Hibs was quite staggering. Only last weekend we looked to have gained at least some of the lost ground, but the display against Rangers sent us back to the drawing-board again."
Smith went on to admit that he is seeking to target three potential new faces at the club, a striker, a creative midfielder and, in the absence right now of injured Jim Paterson, a wide player. He confirmed an interest in out-of-favour Hearts man Darren Jackson, but refused to comment on speculation that Crystal Palace's Anglo Jamie Fullarton was another likely target.
Manager Smith admitted that he is confident of having a fresh face in his side at Motherwell on Saturday.
