WRIGHT SET TO FACE HEARTS

9th October 2000

There was a mixture of good and bad news on the fitness front at Tannadice, after John Blackley welcomed back several squad members back into training.

Stephen Wright's enforced absence due to his recent concussion is now over and he returned to the fold in good time to face Hearts at the weekend. Chances are that he will partner skipper Jason de Vos in central defence after the Canadian managed to complete some light training after suffering from a viral infection.

Further encouragement comes with Jamie Buchan joining the squad for a full session for the first time since suffering a nasty leg injury in the game against Aberdeen.

Blackley, in charge while both Alex Smith and Maurice Malpas are on Scotland Under-21 duty in Croatia, admitted that there was a debit side to the session. He confirmed, "Dave Hannah is still suffering from a groin injury and must be rated as doubtful for the weekend, while David McCracken is another who may struggle to make it."

"However, it was great to see young Steven Fallon out on the training pitch again, after all of the fitness problems he has had over recent seasons".

A handful of United's imports were given some match practice in the weekend testimonial affair at Tayport, and the two Davids, Worrell and Partridge, continued their comebacks in that one as well.
