MCCONALOGUE GETS OFF THE MARK

23rd August 2000

Stephen McConalogue has capped a great week by signing a new three-year deal. Having opened up his first team goal-scoring account in dramatic fashion with his hat-trick at Alloa, the 19 year-old's bid for regular top team football is now underway, with a contract which keeps him at Tannadice until 2003.

Previous boss Paul Sturrock would often comment on McConalogue by suggesting once he began to score in the first team, there would be no stopping him. New Manager Alex Smith may now reap the benefits. "Stephen is a great prospect," said Smith, "and I am delighted with this deal. Stephen is clearly serving notice that he cannot be ignored for first team consideration."

Meanwhile, new signing Stephen Wright was given a day off after helping his new team mates progress in the CIS Insurance Cup. Smith added, "Stephen did well for us but was dead on his feet due to lack of match practice."
